There is no other place in the world that hosts as many areas of demo and testing as Norrbotten, and there are over 40 demo and test actors in the north in the fields of energy, materials, space, vehicles and transport, healthcare, urban planning, telecom and IT.

Northern Sweden has a long tradition of innovative and successful export companies of industrial goods and services, primarily in the high value-added segments.

The vision for Sweden as tourism country is to be the world’s most sustainable and attractive destination built on innovation by 2030. Northern Sweden has great potential to embody this vision with a track-record of high-end experiences, sustainable strategies and international attractiveness.

1,100 billion SEK is currently being invested in northern Sweden, the country's largest combined investment effort in new technology towards battling climate change. Northern Sweden is in general an under-invested region with numerous of globally competitive, innovative and sustainable companies raging from start-ups to mid-sized industrial companies with long ancestry.

Clean, green energy is a hallmark for northern Sweden. The region is a role model for sustainable and innovative energy and climate solutions and several small and large-scale energy initiatives are ongoing with potential to transform the industry.

Upper Norrland, Norrbotten and Västerbotten, is Sweden’s northernmost region and has the largest land area and lowest population density in the country. Rapid economic growth, valuable natural resources and low unemployment rate identify the region but the challenges are many - a high shrinking of workforce, elderly population, increased cost structure combined with decreased tax base.
